A Discussion with Beverly Gholson and MaryKay Brady
Beverly Gholson and MaryKay Brady will discuss death with dignity, Medical Aid in Dying (AID) and Voluntary Stopping Eating and Drinking (VSED). Beverly will cover which jurisdictions permit Medical Aid in Dying and what criteria must be met to qualify for it. She will also discuss how and when to implement VSED. MaryKay, EOLONM’s Board Treasurer and a Certified Death Doula, will provide an experiential perspective having worked with clients and their families during these processes.

Beverly Gholson
Beverly’s professional background as a lawyer in Georgia provided her with the amazing good fortune to retire 30 years ago, leaving her ample opportunity to explore her passions such as hiking, climbing, working with wildlife and environmental issues. She followed her interests to live in Boulder CO, a barrier island near Charleston SC, and now in the City Different, Santa Fe, NM.
MaryKay Brady
MaryKay is retired from a thirty-year career in banking but maintains a very busy volunteer life. Active with several hospice organizations as an end-of-life doula and founder of Friends of Rockhound State Park, as well as a trained Master Gardener with NMSU, life is not dull in her world. A quest for learning led her to the New Mexico End of Life Options Coalition and she began a book club to discuss Barbara Coombs Lee’s book Finish Strong: Putting YOUR Priorities First at Life’s End. The book club led to the growth of the Las Cruces Action Team. With the authorization of the New Mexico aid in dying law, she hopes to share her caring and compassionate traits with all New Mexicans.
