Hosted by the University of New Mexico’s (UNM) School of Medicine – Department of Continuous Professional Learning, the New Mexico Clinicians Conference on Medical Aid in Dying held at UNM on May 18th is the first ever statewide conference for medical professionals focused on medical aid in dying and end of life care. University of New Mexico Hospital’s Dr. Jacqueline O’Neill and Dr. Rachel Rankin organized a very thorough and thoughtful conference featuring informative presentations from national leaders as well as local individuals sharing deeply personal stories.

Dr. Shavelson began his presentation by noting how impactful the End of Life Options New Mexico community has been advocating over many years for the Elizabeth Whitefield End of Life Options Act which was signed into law in June of 2021 as well as now educating and building awareness about advance healthcare planning and end of life options.
