Powerful Tools for Caregivers: Upcoming Free Training Opportunities

Caring for a family member or friend can be deeply meaningful, but it can also be demanding. The Family Caregiver Center of New Mexico is offering upcoming sessions of Powerful Tools for Caregivers, a free six-week educational program designed to give caregivers practical tools, resources and support.

A free six-week program helps New Mexico family caregivers build skills, confidence and resources — while remembering to care for themselves, too.

Dear EOLONM Friends,

Those of us who work in end-of-life care and planning know how much care is provided every day by family members and friends. They coordinate appointments, manage changing needs, make difficult decisions, offer companionship and often become advocates for someone they love — sometimes without ever thinking of themselves as a “caregiver.”

That’s why we wanted to share several upcoming opportunities from the Family Caregiver Center of New Mexico.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers is a free six-week educational program for people caring for a relative or friend, whether that person lives at home, in a facility or across the country.

Practical Tools for a Difficult Job

The program focuses not just on the person receiving care, but on the caregiver.

Over the six weeks, participants learn strategies for self-care, managing emotions such as guilt and anger, communicating effectively and building confidence in handling the demands of caregiving. The program also introduces participants to community resources that may be able to provide additional help.

Participants receive a free copy of The Caregiver Workbook.

Caregiving can sometimes become so focused on another person’s needs that caregivers lose sight of their own. Having practical tools — and the opportunity to learn alongside people facing similar challenges — can make an important difference.

Caring for Caregivers Is Part of Caring Well

At End of Life Options New Mexico, we often meet families during periods of serious illness, changing care needs and difficult decisions. We see firsthand how much responsibility can fall on the people providing care and support.

We’re pleased to share programs like this one that help New Mexico caregivers find information, develop skills and feel better equipped for the work they are already doing.

Please consider sharing these upcoming classes with a family member, friend or caregiver who might benefit.

With appreciation,

The EOLONM Team
